Cross Country Season begins in September and runs through the Junior Olympics Qualifiers in November, where kids can then qualify for the Junior Olympics Regionals or Nationals later in November and December.
When: Practices will be on Monday and Thursday evenings. We will start out from 6:30 pm to approximately 7:45 pm. As it starts getting dark earlier, practice will start earlier.
The first practice includes a mandatory information meeting for parents. Parents must be available to pick up their kids 15 minutes prior to the end of practice.
Where: Averill Park High School track, behind the school.
Who: Kids ages 7-14 who like to run, jump, throw, play games & have fun! You do not need to be a resident of the Averill Park School District.
What: Practices will consist of long-distance running, trail running, sprinting exercises and lots of games. There will be several meets throughout the season where we are competing against other teams. The big event is your participation in the Junior Olympics in November.
How: See our How to Register Page for details. Early-Bird and sibling discounts are available. A $15 late fee is applied after the season starts.
**We are a 501(c)3 Non-Profit organization and do not want the cost of APRR Programs to be a barrier to participation. If your child is interested in participating but your current financial circumstance is a concern, please contact the APRR Board. Scholarships are available.
All athletes must also be registered with the USATF (United States Track & Field Association). Registrations cost $30 for youth and are good for a calendar year. If you already registered for Track and Field (spring) you can use the same number for Cross Country (fall).
Get your child's USATF number first because you will need it for the AP Road Runners registration process. If you are not a member of USATF, you will need to register with them before you can register for APRR. USATF registration is required for all athletes, as our insurance is through USATF and we are a USATF Sanctioned Club.
