About APRR

Averill Park Road Runners (APRR) is a community-based youth running organization that helps kids (aged 7-14) build confidence, sportsmanship, and a lifelong love of fitness. Our team welcomes runners of all experience levels — from first-timers to seasoned competitors — in a positive, encouraging environment.

We offer a spring Track & Field season and a fall Cross Country season.

Track and Field

Track and field is a sport with running, jumping, and throwing events that builds fundamental athletic skills and teaches important values like determination and resilience. Kids can participate in a variety of events, such as sprinting on the track, or jumping and throwing events in the field, which can help them learn about teamwork, sportsmanship, and how to cope with both winning and losing.

APRR Track & Field Season runs from April through June, with opportunities to advance to Junior Olympics Regionals and Nationals in July.

Cross Country

Cross-country running is a fun sport where kids and teams race outside on natural courses consisting of dirt paths, grassy fields, and forest trails. It is an endurance sport with races between 2 and 4 kilometers (1.24 - 2.5 miles) long, depending on age. Runners build mental and physical endurance, learn goal-setting skills and how to push through challenges.

APRR Cross Country Season runs from September through early November, with opportunities to advance to Junior Olympics Regions and Nationals in late November and December.

Volunteer

APRR is run entirely by volunteers from our community. We rely on parents and neighbors to help make our programs a success.

Our coaching team and board include former high school and college athletes, recreational runners, and parents - many of whom have no prior experience with running.

Each season, a handful of APRR alumni give back by serving as junior coaches during their high school years.
